Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct nursing care in line with established protocols and standards of the healthcare organization. Develop and oversee patient care plans.
- Monitor, document, and communicate patient conditions as necessary.
- Assess and document the effectiveness and timeliness of care and interventions.
- Regularly evaluate and update care plans to achieve desired outcomes.
- Act as the primary coordinator for interdisciplinary patient care.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing protocols.
- Execute physician and nursing orders accurately.
- Coordinate discharge planning needs with the healthcare team.
- Assess the educational needs of patients and their families, considering cultural and individual concerns.
- Provide appropriate teaching and educational resources.
- Validate and document patient and family understanding of educational materials.
- Engage in ongoing professional development through formal and informal education and clinical practice.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program. BSN preferred.
Licensure and Certifications:
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) is required upon hire.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the AHA must be obtained upon hire or within the first year of employment, depending on the service level.
- Additional certifications may be required based on specific departmental needs.
Work Environment:
- Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently.
- Must be able to function effectively in a high-pressure environment.
Experience:
- Minimum one year of current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting is required.
- Consideration will be given to licensed military RN experience.
Physical Demands:
- Requires full body motion, including lifting and handling patients, manual dexterity, and coordination.
- Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Requires normal vision and hearing capabilities.
- Must be able to work under stress and during irregular hours.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and body fluids is expected.
- Physical demands exceed those for light work.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Adhere to standard precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as required.
As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will care for patients awaiting critical test results to determine their need for admission or safe discharge. You will manage medications, coordinate tests, and communicate effectively with physicians and other nursing staff.
