Position Overview

Catholic Charities of Tennessee, Inc. is seeking dedicated individuals for the role of Afterschool Program Coordinator for Refugee Youth within our New Americans Department. This part-time position requires approximately 16-20 hours of commitment each week, primarily in the afternoons and early evenings, focusing on supporting refugee youth aged 5-14 in their afterschool activities.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will be responsible for various essential functions, including:

  • Assisting in the execution, management, and assessment of program activities and educational content for the Refugee Youth Program.
  • Utilizing agency transportation to safely escort program participants from educational institutions to the program site and ensuring their safe return home.
  • Designing and facilitating daily activities that promote academic support, recreational engagement, and personal development.
  • Monitoring participant progress and challenges, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Engaging with the community to promote program awareness and address inquiries from parents and educational institutions.
  • Participating in a minimum of twelve hours of professional development training annually.
  • Maintaining accurate records of participant services in accordance with agency protocols.
  • Actively engaging in team meetings, supervision sessions, and ongoing training opportunities.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates should meet the following criteria:

  • High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of two years of relevant experience, or an associate degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with refugee populations and/or youth is preferred.
  • Prior tutoring or teaching experience is advantageous.

Additional Skills

Candidates should possess the following skills and attributes:

  • Proficiency in one or more languages commonly spoken by refugee communities.
  • Understanding of child development and behavior.
  • Ability to lead and inspire youth with maturity and compassion.
  • Certification or experience in trauma-informed practices is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Capability to foster intercultural communication and inclusivity.
  • Excellent judgment and professionalism in public interactions.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and willing to learn new software systems.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a vehicle.
