Summary: The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students enrolled in Specialized Programs by delivering tailored instructional support. This includes academic assistance, behavior monitoring, and the development of functional life skills. The specialist also aids students in maintaining personal health and hygiene, as well as facilitating their movement between classes and transportation points.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support students in a general education environment to ensure full participation in class activities. This includes tutoring, adapting assignments, and monitoring social behaviors. Collaborate with instructors on necessary documentation and implement specialized therapy programs in conjunction with therapists to address physical progress and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
  2. Assist students with special needs in their daily routines, including transitions to and from classes, personal hygiene tasks, and medical requirements, while supporting the implementation of behavior plans.
  3. Maintain a clean and sanitized learning environment by managing bodily fluids and ensuring overall hygiene standards.
  4. Encourage the development of communication skills through alternative methods such as sign language or assistive technology.
  5. Perform additional job-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent is required. A willingness to work with students with significant needs is essential, with training opportunities provided.

Licenses and Certifications:

A criminal background check is mandatory for employment. Candidates must be able to complete a pre-hire physical examination successfully. CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred, along with Universal Precautions training within three months of employment. CPI/Safety Care training certification is also required within three months of entering the position.

Salary and Benefits:

All classified positions are compensated on an hourly basis, with initial placement at Step 1 of the pay grade. Employees may advance through the steps based on prior experience.
