Position Overview:

Stargate School is in search of dedicated individuals to join our team as Special Education Support Specialists. This role is essential in fostering an inclusive learning environment for students with diverse educational needs.

We are looking for candidates who are committed to enhancing the educational experience for students with identified disabilities. The ideal applicant will demonstrate a collaborative spirit, strong communication skills, and a passion for promoting equitable access to learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

The Special Education Support Specialist will:

  • Assist students with special educational needs by facilitating access to academic instruction in both special education and general education settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers to provide tailored learning experiences, ensuring adherence to established service delivery models and accommodations.
  • Implement modifications while encouraging socially acceptable behavior among students.
  • Support instructors with necessary documentation and assist in the preparation of classroom materials.
  • Supervise students during transitions, meals, recess, and field trips as directed by school administration.
  • Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the learning environment on a regular basis.
  • Assist with the administration of assessments or testing as required.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to engage with students in person and/or remotely, with training opportunities provided.
Certifications:
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check is mandatory.
  • CPR, first aid, and medication administration certifications are recommended as scheduled by school administration.
  • Universal Precautions training is preferred.
  • Crisis Prevention Intervention Training attendance is required as scheduled by the supervisor.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to manage and de-escalate challenging situations with students.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all job-related matters.
  • Capability to handle multiple tasks amidst frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and stay updated with new educational practices and technologies.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work collaboratively with diverse individuals.
  • Awareness of safety protocols and the ability to report unsafe conditions to the appropriate personnel.
Technical Proficiency:
  • Familiarity with personal computers and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to learn and utilize school-specific information technology systems within a short timeframe.
