Position Overview: Building Engineer

Role Summary:

EMCOR Government Services is seeking a qualified Building Engineer to oversee the mechanical systems within our facilities. The Building Engineer will utilize various monitoring systems to ensure the optimal operation of major mechanical systems. This role includes responding to fire alarm situations and collaborating with local emergency services upon their arrival. Effective communication skills and a solid understanding of mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems, are essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary representative for all facility emergencies until relieved by designated personnel. Communicate the status of emergencies to the Chief Engineer and coordinate with the Facilities Management Department.
  • Utilize the Building Automation System (BAS) to monitor mechanical systems, documenting any unusual occurrences in the shift log.
  • Perform all tasks safely and professionally, ensuring timely and accurate completion of work.
  • Install, service, and maintain environmental control systems, applying knowledge of refrigeration theory and system layout.
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on pressure vessels, refrigeration machinery, and air handling equipment.
  • Start systems, monitor operations, and adjust controls to maintain system efficiency.
  • Review system blueprints and specifications to ensure compliance and identify potential malfunctions.
  • Prepare systems for operation by opening valves and starting equipment.
  • Engage with users to troubleshoot system malfunctions and document operational readings.
  • Assemble and repair system components, including wiring and structural parts.
  • Conduct installation of complete HVAC systems and perform preventative maintenance on all equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records and logs of all maintenance activities and system checks.
  • Participate in the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Complete all required training and certifications to maintain safety standards.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Washington DC 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Completion of OSHA 10 General Safety and Health training is mandatory.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires regular walking, lifting up to 50 pounds, and the ability to perform various physical tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.

Work Environment:

Employees may encounter wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and exposure to various environmental factors. Safety measures are in place to mitigate risks associated with the work environment.
