Position: Building Engineer

Overview:

We are seeking a qualified Building Engineer to oversee the mechanical systems at our facilities. This role involves monitoring essential mechanical systems using advanced monitoring technologies. The Building Engineer will also be the first responder during fire alarm events and will coordinate with local emergency services upon their arrival. Effective communication skills and a solid understanding of various mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical, are crucial for this position.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary representative for facility emergencies until relieved by appropriate personnel. Maintain communication with the Chief Engineer regarding the status of emergencies and unusual occurrences.
  • Utilize the Building Automation System (BAS) to monitor mechanical systems, documenting any unusual events in the shift log.
  • Perform all tasks safely and professionally, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in execution.
  • Install, service, and maintain environmental control systems, applying knowledge of refrigeration and pipefitting.
  • Conduct maintenance and repairs on pressure vessels, refrigeration machinery, and air handling equipment.
  • Initiate system operations, observe performance, and adjust controls to optimize functionality.
  • Review system blueprints and specifications to ensure compliance and identify potential malfunctions.
  • Prepare systems for operation by opening valves and starting equipment.
  • Engage with users to troubleshoot system issues effectively.
  • Record operational data at specified intervals and operate recovery and charging equipment.
  • Assemble and repair mechanical components using various techniques.
  • Install electrical connections to power components and troubleshoot malfunctioning systems.
  • Perform ductwork installation and ensure proper airflow measurements.
  • Conduct installation of complete heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Lubricate mechanical components as necessary.
  • Carry out preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment, including boilers and cooling towers.
  • Maintain accurate records related to job responsibilities.
  • Respond to fire alarms and participate in fire drills as required.
  • Familiarize with and contribute to the Preventative Maintenance (PM) program.
  • Document daily activities in a logbook and ensure work requests are submitted for any deficiencies.
  • Complete all necessary safety training and certifications.
  • Be prepared to work extended hours or weekends as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Possession of a Washington DC 3rd Class Stationary Engineer License is required.
  • A valid driver's license is necessary.
  • Completion of OSHA 10 General Safety and Health training is mandatory.
