Position Overview

The University of Maryland is seeking a motivated individual to become a part of the Procurement & Strategic Sourcing team. The Purchasing Card Program Specialist will oversee the monthly audits of purchasing card transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness. This role involves educating stakeholders on the appropriate use of purchasing cards, policy guidelines, and updates to procedures, while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the purchasing card program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct monthly audits of purchasing card transactions.
  • Provide training sessions on purchasing card usage, developing and delivering training materials professionally.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding policy information and procedural changes.

Qualifications
Education:
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution.
Experience:
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience in budgeting, accounting, and procurement.
Skills and Competencies:
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage a diverse range of tasks.
  • Excellent communication and customer service abilities, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment, demonstrating both independence and teamwork.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Dependable with the ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong analytical capabilities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with University of Maryland's Purchasing Card Policies & Procedures.
  • Ability to articulate the benefits of a purchasing card program within a procurement context.
  • Capability to exercise independent judgment in business decision-making.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Understanding of basic purchasing principles.
  • Prior experience with Delegated Procurement.

Work Environment

This position is based in a standard office environment, requiring extensive computer use. The role may involve occasional lifting and handling of office materials.
