Role Responsibilities

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Civil Engineering Project Coordinator is tasked with conducting civil engineering analyses, overseeing design processes, managing contracts, and ensuring the successful execution of city projects and programs.

Key Responsibilities:

Demonstrates a solid understanding of infrastructure systems, including street, drainage, water, and sewer design and construction; develops a comprehensive knowledge of relevant engineering principles and practices. Employs specialized software for project planning and civil engineering design; collaborates with a diverse team to achieve project objectives. Develops complete project designs, specifications, cost estimates, bid documents, and contract documents for internal projects; conducts peer reviews of engineering and project plans. Oversees consultant-led projects as assigned; coordinates project management and review; prepares Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to facilitate the selection and hiring of consultants; engages in contract negotiations; drafts and reviews various agreements and contract documents; monitors and manages project funding, scope, and timelines. Facilitates communication with stakeholders, staff, consultants, developers, contractors, and the public; addresses discrepancies and clarifies design intent; provides technical support to other city departments. Offers recommendations for enhancements to programs, policies, and standards, and aids in the implementation of approved improvements. Assists in maintaining project files by organizing and archiving project documentation; aids in updating standard plan notes, forms, specifications, design criteria, departmental policies, council resolutions, and city ordinances. Manages engineering programs as assigned; provides guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Assumes the responsibilities of the Senior Engineer when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, along with four years of relevant experience in civil engineering. A combination of education and experience that fulfills the requirements of this position will be considered. Possession of a South Dakota Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain one within one year of hire. A valid driver's license or the ability to secure one within 30 days of hire.
