JOB SUMMARY

The Civil Engineering Project Coordinator is tasked with conducting comprehensive engineering analyses, overseeing design processes, managing contracts, and ensuring the successful execution of city projects and initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

Demonstrates a solid understanding of infrastructure systems, including street, drainage, water, and sewer design and construction, while applying relevant engineering principles and practices. Utilizes specialized software for project planning and civil engineering design, collaborating with a diverse team to achieve project objectives. Develops detailed project designs, specifications, cost estimates, bid documents, and contract materials for internal projects; conducts peer reviews of engineering plans. Manages consultant-led projects as assigned, providing project coordination and oversight; prepares Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to facilitate consultant selection and engagement; conducts contract negotiations and reviews various agreements. Facilitates communication among stakeholders, staff, consultants, developers, contractors, and the public; addresses discrepancies and clarifies design intentions; offers technical support to other city departments. Recommends enhancements to programs, policies, and standards, and assists in implementing approved improvements. Aids in maintaining project documentation by organizing and archiving files; assists in updating standard plans, specifications, design criteria, and departmental policies. Oversees engineering programs as assigned and provides mentorship to junior engineers. Assumes responsibilities of Senior Engineer in their absence, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, accompanied by four years of relevant experience in civil engineering. A combination of education and experience that fulfills the role's requirements will be considered. Possession of a South Dakota Professional Engineer (PE) License, or the ability to obtain one within one year of hire. A valid driver's license or the ability to secure one within 30 days of hire.
