Position Overview:


The Float Pool Patient Services Representative 1 is responsible for coordinating and engaging in various tasks related to the daily operational processes of the clinic, including patient identification, check-in procedures, charge entry, cash handling, and basic appointment scheduling.

This role is essential in projecting a positive image and providing necessary information to meet patient needs.

As a vital member of the Float team, candidates should be enthusiastic about learning and supporting multiple departments within the organization, possess the ability to work autonomously, and have dependable transportation.


Qualifications:

EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND

An Associate's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience - A minimum of three (3) years in an office or customer service role can substitute for the educational requirement.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS
Completion of a medical terminology course within one (1) year of starting the position.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Prior experience in a public-facing role, basic computer proficiency, and familiarity with office equipment such as fax machines and copiers.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Successful completion of a medical terminology course.
Reliable transportation is essential.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

Excellent communication abilities; maintains a high level of confidentiality; capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously; strong memory for details; adept at prioritizing and completing tasks under pressure; flexible in accepting and implementing changes, and able to function effectively in situations where decisions may not be clear.


Key Responsibilities:


Coordinates and engages in a variety of duties related to the daily operational processes of the clinic, including: patient identification, check-in/out procedures, charge entry, cash management, appointment scheduling, patient registration, and account setup, as well as handling phone communications.

Proficient in using the telephone system, taking and delivering messages to healthcare providers and staff. Accurately and promptly reports medical information obtained from patients and referring providers. Distributes messages according to established communication standards.
Acts as a role model by conducting oneself in a responsible and professional manner.
Manages all incoming patient care requests related to in-basket activities, referrals, work queue activities, and incoming calls.
Demonstrates proficiency with insurance coverage rules, including eligibility, network coverage, and benefits.
Completes mandatory insurance training and ongoing competency refreshers.
Capable of initiating and securing prior authorizations as necessary.
The Float team continually expands services across new departments, locations, and special services to support the community and organization, necessitating staff to be adaptable and willing to train in and support various departments/locations.

Float staff are expected to perform all department-specific job functions required in the departments they are assigned to.

Assists with Patient Services Representative coverage across multiple departments (gaining knowledge of each department and scheduling specifics)
Travels to various departments as needed
Exhibits flexibility with last-minute assignment changes.
Working in a float capacity requires the ability to operate independently.
May be required to work weekends or holidays as necessary (this would be a minimum requirement and on a rotational basis)
May be asked to support temporary or pop-up departments as needed.
