POSITION SUMMARY: EXECUTIVE THEATRE DIRECTOR

The WDM Theatre Company is dedicated to fostering an environment where theatre is accessible, inclusive, and a safe haven for all artists and learners. Our mission is to enhance the skills, careers, and character of emerging adults and theatre professionals through our esteemed Apprentice Program, Agency Services, and exceptional Productions.

The Executive Director plays a pivotal role in the leadership, strategic direction, and overall management of The WDM Theatre Company. This role encompasses the artistic vision, cultural initiatives, fundraising efforts, sustainability practices, and community engagement, all aligned with our organizational mission and strategic objectives. The ideal candidate will be dynamic, entrepreneurial, financially savvy, innovative, and possess outstanding communication skills, capable of managing a diverse array of stakeholders and creative professionals. Embracing change, creativity, diversity, and innovation is essential in inspiring staff, students, patrons, donors, and the broader community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Directs all operational and financial management activities of the theatre, ensuring strategic planning and execution in collaboration with the Board of Directors.
  • Leads promotional and marketing initiatives for the theatre, emphasizing its mission and programming.
  • Possesses knowledge of cutting-edge marketing strategies and collaborates with the marketing team to develop and implement the annual marketing strategy, including social media, audience engagement, ticket sales, and communication campaigns.
  • Partners with the Board of Directors to design, organize, and expand fundraising initiatives, including grants, sponsorships, and major gifts, focusing on identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding relationships with current and prospective donors.
  • Acts as the representative of WDM Theatre Company within the national, state, and local theatre landscape, engaging with government entities, funders, businesses, media, and community members through active participation in events and programs.
  • Maintains a prominent leadership presence in the community and collaborates closely with the Board of Directors to advance the mission of WDM Theatre Company.
  • Collaborates with the Board of Directors on strategic planning and organizational development.
  • Ensures timely and relevant communication with local and regional media regarding theatre performances and activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and relationship management experience.
  • Strong business acumen with a solid understanding of financial management, budgeting, and strategic planning; adept at utilizing data-driven evaluations.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to build relationships with donors, sponsors, community leaders, and board members.
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, and donor engagement.
  • A successful track record in artistic programming, production, and community outreach that aligns with the mission of The WDM Theatre Company.
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field such as arts management, nonprofit management, or business administration.
  • Strong organizational and administrative capabilities, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines; high energy and creativity are essential.
  • A deep passion for the performing arts and a commitment to fostering accessible, inclusive, and diverse programming and community initiatives.
  • Experience working with a board of directors, with a solid understanding of governance, fiduciary responsibilities, and legal compliance, along with the ability to cultivate board member relationships.
  • Proficient in marketing, public relations, and fundraising, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse audience.
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as required.
