Morgan Hunter is conducting a search for a Senior Accounting Specialist for our client. This role is situated within a dynamic organization seeking a dedicated professional to collaborate with the existing accounting team. The Senior Accounting Specialist will take charge of executing high-volume bank reconciliations, preparing journal entries, and aiding in the month-end closing process. Overview

The primary objective is to uphold the integrity of the accounting operations by accurately recording, verifying, and consolidating transactions through journal entries. This role also involves interpreting and executing standardized account reconciliations, while contributing to the enhancement of internal controls related to financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and evaluate monthly account reconciliations in a standardized format to ensure the timely and precise generation of financial statements.
  • Compile and assess monthly journal entries to guarantee the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Engage with various departments within the organization to comprehend the basis for transactions and clarify any discrepancies against the budget.
  • Assist in the preparation and analysis of monthly vendor-related accruals.
  • Conduct financial analyses using Excel and other software tools (e.g., PeopleSoft, Access). Participate in the development and enhancement of internal controls for financial reporting.
  • Identify and support the implementation of process improvements (such as automation) to expedite the monthly closing process.
  • Stay informed about GAAP accounting standards and updates.
  • Participate in special projects as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; CPA certification is a plus.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a finance and accounting setting.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and Access; experience with Microsoft Dynamics is advantageous.
  • Must be a self-motivated individual with a keen attention to detail and a proactive approach, especially in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.
  • Ability to apply a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with GAAP accounting standards is essential.
