Overview: Project One America (POA) is a strategic initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for the LGBT community in regions with limited legal protections. The Chief Project Officer will be responsible for formulating strategies, developing actionable plans, and overseeing the execution of HRC's Project One America.

Key Responsibilities:

The Chief Project Officer will spearhead the implementation of detailed plans tailored for each state involved in the initiative. This role requires collaboration with various departments to identify and evaluate state-specific objectives, which will encompass:

  • Outreach to businesses, faith organizations, and community members.
  • Establishing legislative goals at the state level.
  • Setting federal lobbying priorities.
  • Measuring progress in improving the lives of the LGBT community.

The Chief Project Officer will supervise state-based teams and coordinate with a dedicated group in Washington to facilitate program execution. A vital aspect of this role includes providing leadership, communication, and guidance to program staff.

Public Representation: The Chief Project Officer will act as the public representative of HRC, fostering relationships with influential political figures, donors, and coalition partners nationwide.

Essential Duties:
  • Formulate a communication strategy to highlight ongoing efforts by Project One America.
  • Enhance cross-organizational communication and goal-setting for state teams.
  • Establish program objectives and oversee the recruitment and management of qualified personnel and consultants.
  • Manage the Program's budget, ensuring effective financial oversight.
  • Represent HRC in media engagements, major conferences, and relevant coalitions.
  • Collaborate with the Foundation and Development teams to secure funding and expand initiatives.
  • Work with Membership and Communications teams to create educational messaging for HRC's members.
  • Partner with senior directors to align strategies with HRC's broader goals in advocacy and education.
  • Develop strategies to engage key institutions to prevent discrimination against the LGBT community.
  • Monitor state legislation and assist in targeted advocacy efforts.
  • Coordinate with legislative teams to support federal advocacy initiatives.
  • Oversee the management of Project One America staff across various locations.
  • Perform additional duties as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required, along with a minimum of five years of relevant experience in political advocacy and management.
  • Proven leadership experience in building and managing effective teams.
  • Demonstrated success in state-level advocacy efforts.
  • Comprehensive understanding of LGBT issues.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Proficient in problem-solving within a collaborative environment.
