Position Summary

The Cost Estimator plays a crucial role in executing material takeoffs, conducting financial assessments, and preparing comprehensive estimates for intricate and large-scale projects. This role also entails maintaining historical data and contributing to the formulation of departmental protocols. The focus areas encompass, but are not limited to, Nuclear, Department of Energy (DOE), and Department of Defense (DOD) contracts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to identify the scope of work and estimation requirements.
  • Conduct quantity takeoff from drawings, specifications, and relevant documentation.
  • Prepare estimates to support proposal development and bid submission, particularly for complex pricing documents.
  • Assess labor, materials, construction equipment, subcontracting, and other direct costs for self-performed construction activities.
  • Evaluate crew structures for composite rate formulation in various labor markets.
  • Become proficient in InEight Estimating software.
  • Align bid packages with proposal specifications before distribution to subcontractors and vendors.
  • Review Quote Comparison Sheets upon receipt of subcontractor and vendor pricing.
  • Contribute to the construction execution plan, ensuring the estimate serves as the foundation for actual construction post-award.
  • Assist the Lead Estimator in risk identification and cost analysis.
  • Engage in the estimate review process with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support customer presentation preparations as needed.
  • Evaluate project outcomes and identify areas for improvement by analyzing historical costs from ongoing and completed projects.
  • Upon contract award, facilitate project initiation by refining the estimate in collaboration with business, project controls, and production teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Engineering/Technology, or equivalent extensive experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years' experience in heavy industrial construction.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
