Job Title: Assistant Manager, Body Weld

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Manager to join our Body Weld team at Mazda Toyota Manufacturing USA Inc. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for providing leadership to the body weld lines, ensuring alignment of activities to support the business plan, and fostering a culture of teamwork and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish strong team member relations and provide support for people development, coaching, and mentoring
  • Work closely with advisors from Mazda and Toyota to drive production improvement strategies
  • Create production improvement strategies relative to KPI achievement and support Group Leaders through Team Members
  • Lead Strategic Planning for sustainable daily operations
  • Ensure alignment of activities to support the business plan
  • Share information and communicate goals within and outside of the department
  • Clearly report/present status to upper management when necessary
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally to problem-solve and implement countermeasures when necessary
  • Lead Takt Change planning, line rebalancing, trials, and training activity
  • Introduction of new models and support new model development and activities
  • Create group leader development plans to ensure readiness and ability to effectively coach team members
  • Support introduction of new welding technologies when applicable
  • Validate standardize work instruction for body weld production processes
  • Develop and manage shop safety program and manage timely implementation of countermeasures to resolve problems
  • Ensure white metal body quality and coordinate activity with the team to improve body weld quality
  • Promote problem-solving activities within and outside of the department
  • Lead activity to eliminate production bottle necks and/or chronic downtime utilizing Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA)
  • Identify muda (waste) in body weld process and implement activities to improve efficiency
  • Manage both capital and operating budgets for labor, materials, improvement projects, etc.
  • Cultivate a professional workforce that is representative of the Diversity and Inclusion initiative
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the department
  • Be available to work outside of normal work schedule, including but not limited to weekends, holidays, shutdowns, and travel as needed (domestically and internationally)
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2 years' supervisory experience in an equivalent role or internal demonstrated experience
  • Proficiency in cross-functional, cross-company, and cross-sectional processes
  • Strong ability to problem-solve with a high mechanical aptitude
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of Products
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5 years' supervisory experience in manufacturing, preferably automotive body weld
  • Experience developing and implementing action plans to support business goals and objectives
  • Budget planning and/or management experience (to include both operating and capital budgets)
  • Working knowledge of stamping/body weld production processes
  • Demonstrated knowledge of stamping and body weld environmental requirements
  • Demonstrated knowledge of body accuracy requirements and datum structures
  • Experience with high-volume automation including robotics and PLC's
