Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Risk Management Specialist to join our team at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. The successful candidate will assist in the development and implementation of risk management programs and processes, communicate these programs to operating units, and conduct departmental data analysis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development of strategic risk management business plans, identifying and analyzing potential impact of exposures to loss, researching, evaluating, and making recommendations regarding risk management, insurance, workers' compensation, safety, loss control, and claims management.
  • Assist in the administration of Property and Casualty insurance programs, including self-insured programs, and conduct evaluations of insurance, self-insurance, and other opportunities for financial risk transfer.
  • Prepare annual underwriting submissions on a timely basis for risk financing/insurance programs and assist in negotiations, reviewing and maintaining coverage, updating the Schedule of Insurance, Insurance Coverage Summaries, and other pertinent documentation as required.
  • Coordinate insurance carrier loss control inspections of District facilities, review recommendations, and assist with preparation and delivery of response to insurance carriers.
  • Collect and maintain current and historical exposure and insurance coverage information, conduct contract reviews, and coordinate the issuance and maintenance of incoming and outgoing insurance certificates.
  • Assist in the development of and maintain communication tools for senior management and operating personnel describing risk management policies and programs, provide expertise in policy and coverage interpretation to personnel in operating units, and update risk management guidelines and procedures.
  • Analyze claims data to identify trends and advise operating units, maintain communication with the safety section, Third Party Claims Administrator (TPA), RMIS provider, and other vendors as required, and provide support for Return-To-Work program.
  • Provide support for Emergency Response Program planning, documentation, and exercises (EOP and BCP).
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual insurance and risk management budget.
  • Assign, supervise, and review work, ensure staff compliance with District policies and procedures, including Personnel Rules and Administrative Procedures, complete performance reviews, address employee complaints and grievances, and may recommend employment actions such as hiring, transfer, suspension, promotion, or discharge.
Requirements
  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in risk management, finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • Four years of experience in risk management activities.
  • Additional risk management experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Graduate study in pertinent fields may be substituted for the technical experience on a year-for-year basis.
