Job Title: Senior Grants and Contracts Analyst

The Johns Hopkins University Center for Tuberculosis Research is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Grants and Contracts Analyst to support the SMART4TB Project. As a key member of the research team, you will be responsible for providing dedicated professional-level sponsored funds management, including pre-award and post-award functions, to ensure the timely, effective, and efficient functioning of sponsored funding.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert guidance on protocols, regulations, and guidelines to Principal Investigators and other stakeholders.
  • Manage all assigned award budgets and financial report submissions to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review budgets and related justification for appropriateness and completeness of content.
  • Facilitate communications with subrecipients to ensure timely collection and review of required application documents.
  • Serve as liaison between research units, central offices, and funding agencies.
  • Manage related post-award processes, including award setup, review, account setup verification, and ensuring that staff is set up appropriately.
  • Ensure compliance in all post-award areas related to grant and contract management, including sponsoring organization guidelines, internal protocols, conflicts of interest, etc.
  • Maintain ongoing updates and communications related to current grants and contracts, including monthly account review and reporting to Principal Investigators on the financial status of grants, contracts, and discretionary accounts.
  • Oversee and direct all aspects of complex award management activities and provide oversight to other employees, including monitoring and managing accounts, audits, evaluations, and reporting.
  • Work with international sites in terms of compliance.
  • Respond and resolve all inquiries in a timely manner, including requests for extension of project periods and updates on award funding balances.
  • Consult the manager on situations/concerns that need to be addressed before they escalate.
  • Provide the groundwork for subcontract negotiations, including review for Hopkins-friendly contract language prototypes, and mathematical corrections to subcontract proposals from other institutions.
  • Facilitate and/or produce specialized sponsored project reports utilizing institutional or departmental systems for Project Directors.
  • Assist in the development of the annual work plan project budget and quarterly expenditure reports for submission to the sponsor.
  • Assist with the analysis of technical programs, including productivity and fiscal performance, the product of which is incorporated into short and long-range financial, operational, and strategic planning.
  • Review is based on accuracy, content, adherence to institutional, government, and sponsor guidelines and agreement terms and billing plan.
  • Work cooperatively with Research Administration and Sponsored Projects Shared Services to ensure grant accounts are established in a timely and accurate fashion.
  • Independently reconcile monthly financial statements for assigned accounts according to University guidelines.
  • Create trackers to monitor the expenditure of funds to ensure adherence to award documents and University guidelines.
  • Prepare monthly variance reports on research actual results versus budget and projections based on burn rates.
  • Develop and produce specialized sponsored project reports utilizing institutional or departmental systems for principal investigators and project leadership when requested.
  • Utilize SAP, Fibi, and/or Dashboards to provide various reports, such as sponsored revenue and expenses; by PI and in total, total direct and indirect costs submitted by fiscal year, portfolio reviews, spend rates, etc.
  • Responsible for assisting in the preparation of all sponsored materials requested by internal and external auditors.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Four years of related experience in sponsored research and/or financial positions.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's in the field of finance or accounting.
  • Experience in and academic or medical setting.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Johns Hopkins University accounting system and related fiscal offices.
  • USAID Rules & Regulations training.
  • CRA certification.
