Job Summary

The Department of Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins University is seeking a highly skilled Grants and Contracts Analyst to join our team. This is a full-time position that will provide dedicated professional level sponsored funds management for more than 80% of time with specific responsibility for pre-award and post-award functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Partner with departmental faculty and/or budgetary staff to plan and develop application submissions to various federal offices, private agencies/foundations, and commercial companies.
  • Understand and utilize institutional policies for clinical trials and post-award grant processes.
  • Serve as liaison between research units, central offices, and funding agencies for grants of moderate complexity.
  • Ensure compliance in all other areas related to grant and contract management, including review sponsor guidelines, identify key requirements, and ensure accuracy and compliance of internal protocols, processes, and information.
  • Maintain ongoing updates and communications related to current grants and contracts, including regular reconciliation and reporting critical findings to principal investigators and research management.
  • Communicate with project teams on grants and contractual requirements, timing, status, and results of contractual actions.
  • Prepare and submit documents needed to initiate subaward agreements and modifications.
  • Contact and collaborate with partner institutions to secure all necessary subcontract documentation to ensure that the information/documents provided for submission are accurate and in compliance with the sponsor guidelines.
  • Support all relevant Clinical Trial and post-award responsibilities, including account reconciliation and management of sponsored awards and internal funding, effort reporting, cost transfers, prepare and pay invoices, and provide related faculty support.
  • Assist with submission of prior approvals, waivers, progress and financial reports, extensions, closeouts, and all other required grants and contractual actions needed.
  • Assist with preparation, and/or participation in audits, including problem-solving the complexities of grants/contractual situations, common issues.
  • Facilitate and/or produce specialized sponsored projects reports utilizing institutional or departmental systems for principal investigators, Neurosurgery Administration, Division Leadership, and Neurosurgery Financial Manager when requested.
  • Apply knowledge of Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) and Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) regulations.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and other colleagues to evaluate and create effective, efficient research systems, avoid duplication of effort, and identify opportunities to improve processes and procedures.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Two years of administrative/budgeting experience.
  • Knowledge of accounting and budgeting theory and practices required.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of The Johns Hopkins University accounting system and related fiscal offices preferred.
  • Knowledge of external Federal guidelines/procedures for grants and contracts, including NIH, NSF, DOD, and NASA.
