Key Responsibilities
  • Review and code inpatient, observation, and emergency department records to ensure accurate DRG/APC assignment
  • Abstract demographic and medical information into computer systems to provide a comprehensive data base for statistical reference
  • Communicate with coding team members, CDI specialists, and patient accounts staff to resolve coding discrepancies and ensure compliance with coding guidelines
  • Complete productivity reports, statistical reports, and log sheets to maintain accurate records and track progress
  • Participate in corporate compliance programs and uphold the highest ethical standards
Requirements
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field (or equivalent hospital-based coding experience)
  • CCS, CPC-H, RHIT, or RHIA credentials
  • Two to four years of hospital coding experience
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology
  • Experience with ICD/CPT coding and prospective payment systems
