Clinical Coding Specialist

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for processing medical records by coding, abstracting data, and producing information for third-party billing and statistical analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology, as well as experience with ICD/CPT coding and Prospective Payment Systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews inpatient and observation records to identify and code principal and secondary diagnoses and procedures.
- Abstracts demographic and medical information into a computer system for statistical reference.
- Communicates with coding team members and other stakeholders regarding coding changes, queries, and rebills.
- Completes reports and logs to maintain accurate records and track productivity.
Requirements:
- Associate or Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent hospital-based coding experience.
- CCS, CPC-H, RHIT, or RHIA credentials.
- Two to four years of hospital coding experience.
Desirable Qualifications:
- Encoder experience.
- Clinical Documentation experience.
- CAC (Computer Assisted Coding) experience.
