Job Summary

The Director of Development will lead the planning, direction, and coordination of fundraising activities for major and planned giving prospects and donors focused on the East Coast of the United States, with a particular emphasis on the Boston and Washington DC markets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategic engagement and solicitation strategies for both donors and prospects.
  • Solicit outright gifts of $10K to focus on gifts of $25k to meet (or exceed) annual and quarterly fundraising goals.
  • Work with Planned Giving colleagues to support the endowment campaign and cross-team collaboration goals.
  • Collaborate with the Major Gifts team and other CARE partners to steward donor gifts with formal and informal updates and impact reports on gifts secured.
  • Build meaningful connections and relationships between donors and the organization, serving as a bridge, partner, and liaison between funders and CARE.
  • Responsible for maintaining accurate donor records and pipelines in CARE's CRM and Salesforce.
Community Building & Prospecting
  • Support a community-building strategy that fosters meaningful relationships, learning, and peer-to-peer connections for major donors in key markets, including CARE City Committee and Circle 75 members.
  • Serve as the Major Gifts team liaison for DC specific opportunities like the CARE National Conference, etc.
  • Participate in DC market strategy sessions.
  • Secure and engage new-to-CARE donors to grow funding from this region for CARE's work.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in a fundraising role.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Familiarity with all aspects of fundraising concepts, including Planned Giving, Major Gifts and stewardship functions.
  • Passion and commitment for CARE's mission and values.
  • A creative thinker with proven ability to produce and manage multiple events at one time.
  • A self-starter, detail oriented, well-organized and able to plan and execute events from conception to completion.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills, good judgment and discretion, and the ability to successfully interact with donors, board members, guest speakers and staff at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish, cultivate and steward strong relationships with internal and external audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build successful innovative donor engagement strategies.
  • Ability to develop and execute fundraising strategies and plans that integrate into the organization's mission, priorities and goals.
  • Uses compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of others.
  • Resolves conflicts and differences through dialog and open communication - rebounds from setbacks and adversity when facing difficult situations.
  • Consistently achieves results, even under tough circumstances. Develops a challenging vision of the future and strives to create it through winning new business.
