Infection Control/COVID-19 Nurse - Full-Time

The Infection Control/COVID-19 Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering clinical expertise and support for ongoing COVID-19 response initiatives. This position collaborates closely with the Vice President of Skilled Nursing and the Skilled Nursing Regional Nurses to offer guidance on effective strategies to minimize the transmission of COVID-19, ensuring the safety of both employees and residents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily operations of nursing assistants in compliance with current regulations and guidelines governing long-term care facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures by all nursing personnel under your supervision.
  • Facilitate meetings with nursing staff and support personnel to coordinate services, programs, and activities for each shift.
  • Prepare written and oral reports regarding shift activities as required.
  • Collaborate with other resident services to ensure comprehensive care is maintained.
  • Ensure compliance of nursing service personnel with their respective job descriptions.
  • Participate in facility surveys and inspections conducted by authorized governmental bodies as needed.
  • Interpret departmental policies and procedures to staff, residents, visitors, and government representatives as necessary.
  • Perform administrative tasks including completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, and charting as required.
  • Document accidents and incidents per facility policy and submit reports to the Director of Nursing or Unit Manager.
  • Conduct routine charting duties in accordance with established documentation policies.
  • Report occupational exposures to blood, body fluids, and hazardous materials following facility protocols.
  • Review care plans daily to ensure appropriate care delivery.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Implement and manage infection control protocols and standards related to COVID-19.
  • Monitor and manage employees and residents who have tested positive for COVID-19, including tracking quarantine durations.
  • Stay informed on all CDC guidelines and the latest medical literature regarding COVID-19.
  • Conduct weekly COVID-19 testing for all facility staff.
  • Accurately document and report infection control data to relevant sources.
  • Provide infection control training to staff as directed.
  • Oversee all infection control procedures and manage testing protocols for the facility.
  • Analyze infection data and trends to share with healthcare personnel.
  • Educate other medical professionals on prevention techniques.
  • Develop strategies to prevent disease transmission within healthcare settings.
  • Act as a coordinator or leader of the Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Program.
  • Support the implementation of infection control practices in line with CDC guidelines.
  • Work towards reducing infection rates within the facility.
  • Investigate the origins of pathogens by analyzing their composition.
  • Manage COVID-19-related tasks in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director for Epidemiology/Infectious Disease to establish and evaluate annual infection prevention goals.

Key Job/Physical Requirements:

  • Possession of a valid professional license (RN/LPN) in good standing.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Willingness to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays when necessary.
  • Capability to assist in resident evacuation during emergencies.
  • Ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Awareness of proper lifting techniques and the use of transfer/gait belts when assisting residents.
