Position Overview

The Infection Prevention Specialist plays a critical role in delivering clinical expertise and support for ongoing COVID-19 response initiatives. This position collaborates closely with the Skilled Nursing leadership team to provide strategic guidance aimed at minimizing the transmission of COVID-19 and safeguarding both staff and residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations of nursing assistants in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and procedures by all nursing personnel.
  • Facilitate planning meetings with nursing staff and support teams to coordinate services and activities.
  • Prepare and present reports regarding shift activities as required.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure comprehensive care for residents.
  • Monitor compliance with job descriptions among nursing service personnel.
  • Participate in facility inspections and surveys conducted by regulatory agencies.
  • Communicate departmental policies and procedures to staff, residents, and visitors.
  • Complete necessary administrative tasks, including medical documentation and reporting.
  • Document incidents and accidents in accordance with facility protocols.
  • Conduct routine charting duties as per established documentation standards.
  • Report any occupational exposures to infectious materials following facility guidelines.
  • Review care plans to ensure appropriate care delivery.
  • Maintain confidentiality of resident care information at all times.
  • Implement and manage infection control protocols related to COVID-19.
  • Track and oversee individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19, including monitoring quarantine durations.
  • Stay informed on CDC guidelines and updates.
  • Engage with current medical literature regarding COVID-19 diagnosis and treatment.
  • Conduct weekly COVID-19 testing for all facility staff.
  • Accurately report infection control data to relevant authorities.
  • Provide educational resources on infection control to staff as needed.
  • Manage testing processes within the facility.
  • Supervise all infection control practices.
  • Analyze infection data and trends to inform healthcare personnel.
  • Deliver training on prevention techniques to medical staff.
  • Develop strategies to prevent disease transmission within healthcare settings.
  • Act as a coordinator for the Infection Prevention and Control Program.
  • Support the implementation of infection control measures in line with CDC guidelines.
  • Work towards reducing infection rates within the facility.
  • Investigate the origins of pathogens through analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal COVID-19 regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director for Epidemiology/Infectious Disease to establish and assess annual infection prevention objectives.

Qualifications

  • Valid professional nursing license (RN/LPN) in good standing.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Availability to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Able to assist in emergency evacuations of residents.
  • Capable of performing essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Familiarity with safe lifting techniques and the use of transfer equipment.
