The Assistant Vice President for Professional Nursing Services and Clinical Education plays a pivotal role in steering a high-performing nursing organization within a medical center. This leadership position is tasked with fostering an environment that encourages nursing staff to engage in practice, research, education, and quality decision-making, ensuring that nurses operate at the peak of their licensure.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic and Operational Planning:
- Guide departmental strategies to align with the overarching goals of the organization.
- Engage in identifying metrics to assess the success of strategic initiatives.
- Oversee the formulation and administration of policies and programs.
- Participate in educational initiatives that enhance professional and managerial skills.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory standards through effective communication of organizational plans.
- Build collaborative relationships with medical staff leadership to meet departmental objectives.
Program Management:
- Integrate institutional values into educational programs for staff.
- Design and implement orientation for clinical personnel.
- Lead the development of evidence-based educational programs to enhance professional competencies.
- Assess program outcomes and implement necessary adjustments.
- Provide guidance on establishing and evaluating a Shared Governance model within nursing.
Operational Management:
- Oversee daily operations of the Center for Learning and Development.
- Monitor departmental personnel performance to ensure goal achievement.
- Exhibit effective leadership techniques to maintain high productivity.
- Adapt efficiently to changes in the work environment.
- Encourage the application of clinical nursing research.
Financial Management:
- Develop departmental budgets based on programmatic needs.
- Manage budgets responsibly and in alignment with fiscal requirements.
- Prepare analytical reports to identify trends and propose solutions.
Human Resource Management:
- Recruit and select qualified personnel.
- Mentor and guide staff to uphold quality and adherence to policies.
- Establish performance standards for departmental personnel.
Leadership and Collaboration:
- Provide mentorship to direct reports for their professional success.
- Stay informed on clinical and educational advancements.
- Collaborate with nursing leadership to organize educational and research initiatives.
Patient Safety:
- Ensure compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Support a culture that promotes error identification and analysis.
Qualifications:
Education: Master's Degree in health, business, education, or a related field is required.
Experience: 7-10 years in nursing with a focus on staff education and professional development, along with 3-5 years of progressive management experience.
Skills: Strong communication skills, ability to foster collaboration, and knowledge of quality improvement principles are essential.
