The Assistant Vice President for Professional Nursing Services and Clinical Education plays a pivotal role in steering a high-performing nursing organization and enhancing the overall efficacy of the medical center.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic and Operational Leadership:

  • Guide departmental initiatives to align with the organization’s overarching objectives.
  • Engage in identifying metrics to assess the success of strategic plans.
  • Provide administrative oversight in the development, interpretation, and enforcement of policies and programs.
  • Participate in educational initiatives that foster professional and managerial growth while staying updated through literature and networking.
  • Communicate organizational strategies to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
  • Build collaborative relationships with medical staff leadership to meet departmental goals.

Program Development and Management:

  • Integrate institutional values into educational programs for staff.
  • Oversee the orientation process for clinical personnel.
  • Lead the creation and execution of evidence-based educational initiatives to enhance professional competencies.
  • Assess program outcomes and implement necessary adjustments.
  • Guide the establishment and evaluation of a Shared Governance model within the nursing framework.

Operational Oversight:

  • Manage daily operations of the Center for Learning and Development.
  • Review departmental personnel performance to ensure alignment with goals.
  • Exhibit effective leadership to drive productivity.
  • Adapt to changes in the work environment efficiently.
  • Encourage the application of clinical nursing research.

Financial Oversight:

  • Develop operating and capital budgets based on programmatic needs.
  • Prepare departmental budgets reflecting fiscal requirements.
  • Administer budgets responsibly and in a cost-effective manner.
  • Generate operational reports to identify trends and propose solutions.

Human Resource Management:

  • Recruit and select qualified personnel.
  • Mentor and guide staff to uphold quality standards and adhere to policies.
  • Establish performance standards through criteria-based job descriptions.
  • Assess and address educational needs for departmental personnel.

Leadership Across the Organization:

  • Provide mentorship to direct reports to facilitate their success.
  • Stay informed on clinical, leadership, and educational advancements.
  • Collaborate with nursing leadership to organize educational and research initiatives.

Patient Safety Commitment:

  • Ensure compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Support a culture that promotes the identification and analysis of errors.

Qualifications:

Education: Master’s Degree in health, business, education, or a related field is required.

Experience: 7-10 years in nursing with a focus on staff education and professional development, along with 3-5 years of progressive management experience.

Skills: Effective communication, collaborative environment creation, accountability for decisions, and knowledge of quality improvement principles are essential.

Licenses: Current NYS Registered Nurse license is required.
