Position Summary

This role involves overseeing a group of Claims Examiners and Claims Service Representatives who manage intricate claims. Your focus will be on ensuring that all claims are processed promptly, effectively, and courteously, while adhering to established guidelines. You will also supervise the work of external vendors and contractors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading Examiners and Service Representatives to guarantee proper claims management and adherence to protocols.
  • Monitoring the output of external vendors and contractors.
  • Assessing property claims and offering guidance and settlement authority to property claims adjusters.
  • Conducting both Open and Closed File Reviews to assess and document overall operational effectiveness.
  • Managing loss, loss adjustment expenses, and reserves for property claims efficiently.
  • Identifying complex claims and formulating suitable claims strategies and settlement solutions.
  • Researching, reviewing, and interpreting policy language and relevant state laws as needed.
  • Addressing special cases and problem claims, evaluating claims, and resolving policy coverage issues beyond staff authority.
  • Assisting in the development of departmental policies and procedures, setting strategic goals, and providing direction and support.
  • Engaging effectively with agents, policyholders, Claims Unit personnel, Underwriting, Human Resources, Finance/Accounting, and the Chief Claims Officer. Interacting with external business partners and exercising independent judgment.
  • Building a cohesive and efficient team that consistently delivers high-quality customer service.
  • Setting leadership and growth objectives for team members while collaborating with teams to meet company goals.
  • Handling additional tasks and projects as assigned.

Essential Functions

  • Providing supervision and guidance to Examiners and Service Representatives in claims handling, performance, compliance, strategy, and settlement authority.
  • Applying critical thinking to evaluate coverages, interpret insurance policies, and determine appropriate settlement strategies.
  • Communicating effectively in both verbal and written forms with internal departments, direct reports, and external vendors, stakeholders, and policyholders.
  • Identifying and interpreting complex, special, or large loss claims and determining the best resolution strategy.
  • Continuously monitoring team performance, setting goals, conducting evaluations, and implementing disciplinary actions as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Florida All Lines Adjuster License (620 License) is required.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or a combination of education and substantial directly related experience.
  • A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in processing Homeowners claims, with at least 2 years in a management role.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and exceptional organizational abilities.

Direct Reports

This position manages the Claims Examiner and Claims Service Representative staff, as well as external vendors and contractors.

Work Environment

This role is conducted in a professional office setting, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to communicate verbally and audibly. The employee frequently needs to stand, walk, use hands for handling or feeling, and reach with hands and arms.
