Position Overview
Under general supervision, oversees the investigation, management, and prompt resolution of Liability claims in accordance with established guidelines, while supporting the Claims leadership in managing the Service Center.
Key Responsibilities
1. Performance Management: Establishes and communicates clear performance expectations and objectives. Conducts regular performance evaluations and implements corrective actions as necessary, adhering to human resource policies. Recommends salary adjustments, promotions, and other personnel actions. Provides guidance on career development opportunities and keeps the team informed about industry trends and departmental updates through regular meetings.
2. Claims Oversight: Reviews, analyzes, and assigns claims to appropriate examiners with clear directives. Ensures that all directives are executed effectively and that workloads are balanced according to staffing models. Proposes enhancements to productivity and ensures timely claim resolutions.
3. File Review and Coaching: Conducts daily file reviews to identify further requirements based on best practices. Assists with reserve recommendations and approvals. Coaches team members on investigations, evaluations, and settlement strategies. Ensures compliance with internal and external standards for large loss reporting.
4. Communication and Reporting: Keeps Claims leadership informed of activities and challenges within the assigned area, escalating issues as necessary. Performs additional related duties as required.
5. System Management: Utilizes the Risk Tech Claim System and other related systems to optimize workflows for maximum efficiency. May assist in training new and existing staff on system operations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience as a Claim Examiner or equivalent, demonstrating the ability to manage complex cases with sound judgment.
- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
- Relevant industry designations are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Must meet state licensing requirements for the insurance lines handled.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
- Proven organizational and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to effectively lead, supervise, and develop team members.
- Comprehensive knowledge of services provided by the branch.
- In-depth understanding of insurance coverages and negotiation techniques.
- Familiarity with legal, medical, and technical aspects related to claims.
