Position Overview:
The Financial Accountant is responsible for executing routine general ledger accounting tasks. This role includes assisting in the development of financial statements and providing insightful financial reporting and variance analysis. Daily journal entries are prepared to accurately document financial transactions. The Financial Accountant also contributes to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, along with additional financial reporting. Participation in departmental initiatives and projects is expected.

This position operates under direct supervision, making a defined range of decisions while escalating issues to management as needed and keeping them informed regularly.


Key Responsibilities:

What You Will Be Responsible For:
Conducting routine general ledger accounting duties for life insurance subsidiaries, adhering to both statutory and GAAP standards.


Assisting in the preparation of regular monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supplementary financial reports for distribution to management, the Board of Directors, regulatory bodies, and rating agencies.

Providing monthly financial variance analysis for selected general ledger accounts, escalating findings to department leadership.

Supporting the implementation and maintenance of effective processes and procedures to enhance work efficiency.

Assisting management in identifying and developing analytical tools necessary for effective business management.

Identifying accounting issues that affect the Company and notifying the appropriate personnel.

Maintaining a comprehensive understanding of current statutory and GAAP accounting principles.


Completing fixed asset reporting, which includes analyzing the Construction in Progress account, recording assets, organizing annual physical inventory, reconciling physical inventory reports with the fixed asset system, retiring assets, preparing monthly depreciation journal entries, and generating monthly fixed asset reports such as Roll Forward Schedule, Construction in Progress analysis, Fixed Asset report, and depreciation expense report.

Actively participating in the administration of the unclaimed property reporting function.

Conducting routine account reconciliations to ensure the integrity of financial data.

Serving as a resource on special projects, including testing new systems and processes.

Utilizing operational excellence to identify, evaluate, and implement changes that enhance efficiency and mitigate risk.

Performing additional duties as assigned by management.

Adhering to all policies and standards.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in accounting or a finance-related field is required.

Typically, candidates will have up to two years of professional experience.

Demonstrated foundational knowledge and understanding of statutory and GAAP accounting principles.

Ability to provide examples of applying accounting principles to real-world business scenarios.

Proven capability to analyze and interpret financial statements.

Demonstrated experience in problem-solving situations.

Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Commitment to quality, emphasizing the importance of delivering high-quality products and services.

Examples of self-motivation and proactive personal development are preferred.

Ability to adapt communication styles and effectively convey technical information to associates at various levels.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience in engaging with both large and small groups.

Certification as a Public Accountant or an MBA is preferred upon hire.
