Organizational Background

Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County is a prominent nonprofit organization dedicated to serving individuals from diverse backgrounds and beliefs, helping them overcome economic challenges and barriers to wellness. With nearly a century of experience in faith-based social services, the organization employs a comprehensive strategy that encompasses direct assistance, advocacy, and community engagement.

Despite being one of the wealthiest counties in the nation, Santa Clara County faces significant poverty challenges, and the services available can often be disjointed and difficult to navigate. Catholic Charities has been a leader in providing essential safety net services for over four decades and is now at a critical juncture. Guided by its strategic framework, the organization is rolling out a systematic, scalable, and measurable initiative focused on family-centered community change, which aims to provide sustainable pathways out of poverty.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Implement the strategic vision of the organization, ensuring operational focus and managing a diverse portfolio of human services programs.
  2. Act as the primary representative of the organization to stakeholders, including funders, community partners, and the public, while actively cultivating relationships to enhance support and awareness.

The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors, including the Bishop of the Diocese of San Jose, and will lead a talented Senior Executive Team. The organization currently employs approximately 560 staff members, with a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Leadership and Culture

  1. Develop a deep understanding of the organization's history, culture, and mission, fostering collaborative relationships across all levels.
  2. Promote a culture of inclusivity and teamwork, ensuring the organization attracts and retains a diverse and high-quality workforce.
  3. Inspire and guide the Senior Leadership Team, setting clear goals and promoting transparent communication.

Financial Oversight

  1. Ensure efficient administration of daily operations and programs, making informed, data-driven decisions.
  2. Work with the Chief Financial Officer to maintain fiscal health and sustainability, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission.

Program Development

  1. Champion high-quality programming while managing risks and maximizing impact.
  2. Identify and address unmet needs within the community, continuously innovating service delivery.

Fundraising and External Relations

  1. Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer to enhance fundraising efforts and develop strategic partnerships.
  2. Serve as a spokesperson for the organization, advocating for clients and promoting visibility in the community.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will embody the principles of servant leadership, demonstrating a commitment to the mission and values of Catholic Charities. A deep understanding of poverty, social equity, and a proven track record in executive leadership within complex environments are essential.

Successful candidates will possess:

  1. A minimum of 10 years of executive leadership experience in nonprofit or social service sectors.
  2. Strong financial acumen and experience in managing large organizations.
  3. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across diverse communities.

The compensation for this role includes a competitive salary and a comprehensive benefits package.
