Job Overview

Location: Hybrid/Washington, DC.

We are in search of a dedicated and client-focused cybersecurity expert to enhance our Department of State client's cybersecurity initiatives. The selected candidate will play a crucial role in advancing the client's cybersecurity framework, ensuring the implementation of cyber policies, operational roles, and compliance measures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your knowledge of existing Government IT Frameworks to develop and enforce effective cybersecurity policies tailored to specific government divisions.
  • Create and implement extensive cybersecurity training programs for various roles (SO, ISSO, ISSM), ensuring staff are well-equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct thorough analyses and documentation of current cybersecurity processes and procedures. Identify opportunities for enhancement and provide practical recommendations for improvement.
  • Establish and uphold a stringent compliance tracking system for essential artifacts such as POA&M, ATO, and ISA.
  • Collaborate closely with software development teams to ensure cybersecurity considerations are integrated throughout the software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Public Policy, or a related discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Policy Subject Matter Expert with a proven focus on cybersecurity frameworks and compliance within the U.S. government or government contracting sector.
  • Demonstrated experience in formulating and executing policies in alignment with NIST standards (particularly NIST and related Special Publications).
  • Familiarity with the Risk Management Framework (RMF) process and related documentation (SSP, SAR, POA&M, etc.).
  • Comprehensive understanding of NIST 800-53 and other pertinent cybersecurity standards and regulations (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP).
  • Ability to customize cybersecurity policies to fulfill specific agency and mission requirements.
  • Evaluate complex processes and workflows associated with authorization, assessment, and continuous monitoring.
  • Identify inefficiencies and compliance gaps, providing data-driven recommendations for enhancements.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Proficient in collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams, including stakeholders at various levels within the government.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Department of State FAM/FAH: Experience with our internal framework is highly advantageous.
  • Understanding of government contracting processes, terminology (FAR, DFARS, etc.), and the impact of policy decisions on contract compliance.
  • Relevant cybersecurity certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, etc.) are highly regarded.
  • Background in software development and the integration of security principles within the software development lifecycle.

Clearance Requirement: Active Secret clearance.
