POSITION OVERVIEW AND REQUIREMENTS

Are you dedicated to environmental sustainability? If so, you may be an ideal candidate for the position of Environmental Sustainability Consultant within the Clackamas County Department of Transportation & Development / Sustainability & Solid Waste Program. Join our dedicated team to play a crucial role in advancing sustainability initiatives, waste minimization, and resource conservation strategies throughout Clackamas County.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with local businesses, particularly those involved in food production, to ensure adherence to waste management standards and to enhance recycling and waste reduction initiatives. Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring compliance with the Business Food Scrap Requirement
  • Offering technical guidance to improve waste reduction strategies
  • Assisting in the development of outreach materials
  • Delivering exceptional customer service
  • Conducting informative presentations on waste management topics
  • Coordinating with waste management providers for efficient collection services
  • Maintaining accurate program documentation

In addition to business-focused efforts, you will engage in community outreach to promote best practices in waste management. Responsibilities in this area include:

  • Creating print and digital resources for public education
  • Developing communication materials for internal stakeholders
  • Engaging with various organizations for outreach initiatives
  • Collaborating on content development
  • Monitoring program communications
  • Delivering presentations to diverse audiences

This position does not involve direct supervision but requires a substantial level of experience.

Required Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  • Minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience
  • At least one (1) year in the sustainability or waste reduction sector
  • Strong organizational abilities

Preferred Qualifications/Transferable Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
  • Experience in developing sustainability initiatives
  • Knowledge of sustainability frameworks
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Experience in building partnerships
  • Familiarity with InDesign
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Driving may be necessary for County-related business

As an Environmental Sustainability Consultant, you will:

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Skills to: Communicate effectively, provide technical assistance, research and analyze issues, deliver presentations

WORK SCHEDULE

This is a full-time role with various workweek schedules available. Hybrid on-site/remote work arrangements may be possible based on business needs.
