Job Overview

We are seeking a Traveling Field Service Engineer to join our team in Northern California. This role is essential in ensuring the optimal performance of our microbiology equipment.

Position Summary:

The Traveling Field Service Engineer plays a critical role in the inspection, installation, and maintenance of microbiology technology. Responsibilities include conducting preventative maintenance, calibrating equipment, performing electrical safety tests, troubleshooting issues, and documenting all service activities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct installation, maintenance, and repair of automated microbiology systems, utilizing knowledge in electronics, robotics, and mechanical processes.
  • Meet performance metrics related to equipment maintenance, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of service activities as per manufacturer guidelines.
  • Act as a resource for proper equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Provide training to instrument operators on effective equipment usage.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service while addressing client requests with professionalism.
Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience (2-3 years).
  • Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 75%) with minimal notice.
  • Ability to work independently and reliably with limited supervision.
  • Strong customer service skills and excellent communication abilities.
  • Availability for on-call duties 24/7.
  • Comfortable working in clinical settings with potential exposure to infectious agents.
  • Proficient in computer operations and capable of interpreting instrument schematics.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods during travel.
  • Manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Capability to crouch, kneel, and maneuver in tight spaces.
  • Endurance to stand for prolonged periods and perform kneeling tasks.
Work Environment:

This position is primarily based in laboratory settings, with exposure to mechanical components and biological materials. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and the noise level is typically moderate.
