Job Description

Staff Geotechnical Engineer

At Success Staffing Agency, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our team. As a Staff Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a crucial role in providing technical support and expertise to our clients in the field of geotechnical engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preliminary Reconnaissance Visits: Conduct site visits to assess potential projects and identify potential geotechnical hazards.
  • Exploratory Drilling: Coordinate and conduct exploratory drilling for new projects, including the installation of piezometers, slope inclinometers, and other monitoring systems.
  • Construction Observations and Testing: Perform construction observations and testing during construction to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Pier Drilling: Conduct pier drilling operations to determine soil conditions and bearing capacity.
  • Filling Placement: Place fill materials to achieve the required density and compaction.
  • Subdrain Installation: Install subdrains to manage surface and subsurface water.
  • Footing/Mat Excavation: Excavate footings and mats to the required depth and width.
  • Subgrade Preparation: Prepare the subgrade to receive the final pavement layer.
  • Surface/Subsurface Drainage Discharge Locations: Identify and mark surface and subsurface drainage discharge locations.
  • Data Review: Review data from City/County files to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Lab Test Requests: Prepare laboratory test requests for samples obtained during drilling.
  • Site Plans and Reports: Develop site plans, cross sections, typical details, boring logs, and other figures for report preparation.
  • Literature and Aerial Photograph Searches: Conduct literature and aerial photograph searches to gather relevant information.
  • Basic Foundation Investigation Reports: Prepare basic foundation investigation reports for small new construction projects.
  • Construction Observation and Testing Services (COTS) Reports: Prepare COTS reports for construction observation and testing services.
  • Data Organization: Assist with data organization for litigation projects.
  • Laboratory Tests: Perform laboratory tests to determine soil properties.
  • Software Analysis: Conduct analyses using available software (CPeT-IT, CLiq, Slide, Settle 3D, L-Pile, etc.) under the supervision of a senior engineer.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of experience as a Staff Engineer I with increasing levels of responsibility and independent engineering judgment.
  • Licensure: Passed the EIT examination and working towards obtaining the Civil Engineer license in the State of California.

The Staff Geotechnical Engineer will work in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and deadlines. The position requires strong communication and teamwork skills, as well as the ability to work independently and make sound engineering judgments.
