Job Overview

Position Summary:
Tidal Basin is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Intake Specialist within the ReOregon initiative. This position is crucial in assisting wildfire survivors by guiding them through the application process for the ReOregon program. The Intake Specialist will act as the main liaison between applicants and the program, ensuring that exceptional customer service is provided while coordinating necessary resources to meet the clients' sheltering or repair needs.

The Intake Specialist will play a vital role in helping applicants submit comprehensive applications, enabling the verification of eligibility. This includes gathering essential information regarding household composition, income, home ownership, and any assistance received from other federal programs or insurance, to prevent any potential duplication of benefits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate the intake center, providing support to fire survivors during designated hours.
  • Conduct interviews with applicants to gather initial information for processing housing program applications.
  • Organize and facilitate meetings with homeowners and landlords to collect necessary data for initial applications.
  • Provide guidance on housing program policies, rules, and documentation to homeowners and landlords.
  • Collect and validate information from applicants.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with colleagues, homeowners, landlords, tenants, and external organizations to ensure effective customer service and problem resolution.
  • Manage electronic and physical correspondence, documents, and forms.
  • Inform applicants and homeowners about the regulations, policies, and procedures of the housing programs in compliance with HUD regulations.
  • Input homeowner, landlord, and tenant information into the appropriate systems.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive filing system for all relevant parties.
  • Conduct mobile intake sessions as necessary for applicants unable to visit the office.
  • Respond to inquiries via telephone, fax, email, and in-person regarding program requirements and application statuses.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Strong verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of applicants from various socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Proven ability to multitask, organize, and prioritize work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn new software systems.
  • Willingness to work in-person and during evening hours as needed.
Education and Experience:
  • A Bachelor's degree in social services or a related field is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in disaster recovery, housing support services, or social services is preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates, particularly in English and Spanish, are encouraged to apply.
