Position Overview

Summary: Under the guidance of the Chief Executive Officer, this role is pivotal in leading, managing, and overseeing the Global Psychological Services Special Education Unit. The primary objective of the Head of Special Education Services is to cultivate, implement, and sustain exemplary educational programs and services tailored for students with special needs. This position entails strategic planning, organization, and direction of the Special Education Unit's overall operations, while also collaborating with executive and administrative personnel to achieve the organization's established goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the Special Education Program and Services in alignment with the policies, goals, and objectives of the Special Education Unit. Formulate both long-term and short-term special education strategies. Assist in the design and execution of programs that ensure the alignment of educational standards with effective teaching methodologies for special education.
  • Ensure compliance by monitoring Special Education Case Load Rosters.
  • Support building-level administrators and staff in the application of District policies, procedures, and programs.
  • Supervise and conduct annual evaluations of Special Education Coordinators and staff.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of special education staff assignments, prioritizing capacity building and efficiency.
  • Enhance team collaboration by monitoring the roles and responsibilities of special education staff.
  • Streamline the management and oversight of the diagnostic, intervention, and referral processes for special education eligibility.
  • Conduct interviews for prospective administrative and professional candidates and assess personnel applications.
  • Draft and prepare technical documentation regarding the operations of the Special Education Unit.
  • Improve the visibility of program information on the company's website and marketing materials to better inform stakeholders about the Special Education Unit's offerings.
  • Facilitate regular informational meetings to promote communication and collaboration among all staff.
  • Guide the development and execution of both long-range and short-range plans to achieve program objectives in accordance with the strategic plan of the Special Education Unit.
  • Conduct ongoing needs assessments, analyze data, and utilize relevant information to refine and enhance the operational functions and services of the Special Education Unit; evaluate program initiatives.
  • Encourage research on trends and best practices to provide informed recommendations for student success through innovative and effective programming.
  • Plan and deliver professional development opportunities for Special Education Unit staff, fostering continuous improvement through self-assessment and goal setting.
Evaluation Skills:
  • Establish a robust evaluation system for programs and content to assess satisfaction and effectiveness.
  • Set performance standards for all personnel to ensure service objectives are met.
  • Analyze challenges, identify alternative solutions, project potential outcomes, and implement recommendations to support program goals.
  • Ensure that performance targets are consistently achieved.
  • Maintain necessary records for effective program administration.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Foundational Skills:
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of evolving special education issues, legal changes, and educational methodologies for students with disabilities, essential for managing a high-quality special education program.
  • Knowledgeable in special education curriculum and programming, as well as State and Federal education laws and regulations.
  • Extensive experience and sophisticated knowledge in curriculum development, instructional best practices, school management, leadership development, and a proven track record in leading strategic educational initiatives that enhance student achievement.
  • Exceptional project management capabilities, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong strategic communication skills, including proficiency in written and verbal communication, public speaking, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to think strategically and execute plans effectively, while adapting to complex or ambiguous situations; proactive in initiating process improvements and fostering continuous learning.

Education Requirements:
  • Must possess a current Michigan teaching certificate (or equivalent) with a special education endorsement in areas such as autism, cognitive impairment, emotional impairment, learning disabilities, physical education for students with disabilities, and/or speech and language impairment.
  • A Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or Special Education Administration, along with Special Education Supervisor and Director Approval and Administrator Certificate, is required.
