The Chief Operations Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission and vision of Virginia Community Colleges by delivering strategic, institution-wide leadership across several essential operational domains.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee services that bolster the college's educational objectives and enhance the overall welfare of the institution.
2. Provide strategic leadership for the operational sectors of Information Systems, Institutional Effectiveness, and Public Safety.
3. Ensure accurate and timely reporting of business operations to both internal and external stakeholders.
4. Guarantee compliance with all relevant federal, state, and institutional policies governing the operational areas.
5. Coordinate the establishment, maintenance, and dissemination of college policies and procedures for the operational sectors mentioned above.
Strategic Planning:
Develop the college's General Technology Plan, along with budgets and spending strategies, to sustain and improve the college's information systems and technical infrastructure. Communicate technology recommendations to the college leadership.
Institutional Effectiveness:
Lead the institutional effectiveness initiatives, which encompass institutional research, planning, and student outcomes assessment.
Campus Environment:
Foster a safe and inclusive campus atmosphere for a diverse student body, faculty, and staff. Direct the college's emergency response plan and other critical components related to safety and security.
Diversity and Inclusion:
Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in alignment with the strategic goals and mission of Virginia Community Colleges.
Qualifications:
1. Proven expertise in the operational areas outlined above.
2. Extensive experience in higher education administration, particularly in the relevant domains, with a track record of effective people and task management in a complex work environment.
3. Strong capability in long-range planning related to operational functions, providing information to a diverse range of stakeholders.
4. Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the ability to organize, analyze, and innovate.
5. Proficiency in budget preparation and management.
6. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
7. Understanding of strategic planning and resource allocation in a large, preferably multi-campus, community college setting.
8. Commitment to promoting cultural diversity, equity, and inclusion as core values.
Education:
A Master's degree in a relevant field from a regionally accredited institution is required.
