General Responsibilities

The role involves assisting educators in delivering instruction to scholars through the classical learning model, complemented by data-informed decision-making. The assistant will help tailor educational approaches to meet diverse needs and behaviors within the classroom.

Reporting Structure: Instructional Assistants report directly to the Classroom Teacher and are under the supervision of the Principal.

Collaboration with: Classroom Teacher, Vice Principal, Principal, Head of School, Faculty, Department Heads, Office Staff, Health Services Coordinator, Families, and Scholars of Leman Academy.

Qualifications/Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED;
  • An Associate's degree or higher;
  • At least two years of study at an accredited institution (60 completed credit hours);
  • Passing score on skills assessment (ParaPro);
  • AZ IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card / Background and Criminal History Clearance;
  • First Aid and CPR Certification;
  • A commitment to learning the Classical education model;
  • A desire to understand Miss Mason's educational philosophy and methodology;
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to positively engage with the community, parents, scholars, administration, and instructional staff;
  • A dedication to supporting and promoting excellence in classical education;
  • Ability to manage conflict resolution with humility and service;
  • Capacity to communicate effectively and professionally with scholars, parents, colleagues, and vendors;
  • Strong commitment to fostering health and safety, including a healthy environment;
  • Ability to operate necessary office equipment;
  • Physical capability to lift and move boxes and packages.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the classroom environment established by the teacher and uphold rules and procedures for responsible behavior, ensuring order among scholars.
  • Prepare instructional materials and resources for classroom activities, guided by the teacher.
  • Provide instructional support to scholars through whole-class, small group, and individual approaches as directed by the teacher.
  • Supervise scholars during transitions, drop-off, lunch, and pick-up, maintaining a focus on safety.
  • Read to classes or small groups.
  • Administer assessments and assignments as directed by the teacher or Principal.
  • Maintain accurate records of scholar progress as required by the school and applicable laws.
  • Encourage scholars to explore learning opportunities and persist through challenges.
  • Assist the teacher in enforcing school policies and rules.
  • Instruct scholars on the proper use and care of equipment and materials to prevent injuries.
  • Participate in professional development meetings and training workshops as requested by administration.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Principal, contributing to the overall operations and learning environment of the school.
  • Assist in the storage and inventory of classroom supplies and materials.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with FERPA regulations.
