Position Overview
The Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) at the University of Denver is seeking dedicated tutors for the academic year. We are looking for individuals with a robust academic background in college-level Business, Engineering/Computer Science, Humanities, Languages, Mathematics, Science, and Social Sciences, ranging from entry-level to advanced expertise. This role operates under the guidance of the Tutoring Coordinator and the LEP Associate Director. LEP Tutors play a crucial role in helping students develop confidence, independence, and essential academic skills in a personalized setting.

Role Summary
All LEP Tutors work under the direct supervision of the LEP Tutoring Coordinator. Each tutor will be paired with a Lead Tutor who will serve as their mentor throughout their tenure. The Learning Effectiveness Program is designed to support neurodiverse learners, necessitating skilled tutors who can assist students in acquiring both academic and non-academic skills essential for success. New tutors are required to complete an online orientation and the initial hours of CRLA Certification training. Participation in the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Level I and Level II Certification is expected, along with engagement in training activities to uphold our tutoring standards.

Key Responsibilities
LEP Tutors are expected to:

  • Provide effective one-on-one tutoring sessions.
  • Assist students in becoming self-sufficient and independent learners.
  • Collaborate with LEP Academic Counselors to address the learning needs of students.
  • Maintain and update availability in our tutoring scheduling software.
  • Communicate any changes or cancellations promptly.
  • Clarify students' questions to enhance their understanding of the material.
  • Offer academic strategies and tools beneficial for their future endeavors.
  • Encourage critical thinking regarding course content.
  • Explore innovative learning methods with students.
  • Foster a growth mindset in students to overcome learning obstacles.
  • Ensure accountability before and during tutoring sessions.
  • Complete all required tutoring assessments in a timely manner.
  • Maintain consistent communication with the Tutoring Coordinator and Lead Tutor regarding any concerns.
  • Fulfill additional tasks as assigned by the Tutoring Coordinator.

Qualifications
Student Tutors
Current students must apply through the designated platform. Student Tutors must be enrolled in classes and maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 in their tutoring subjects, along with a recommendation from a faculty or staff member.

Community Tutors
Community Tutors should possess at least one year of relevant experience in their tutoring subjects.

Preferred Attributes
Student Tutors
Graduate-level students and those with prior tutoring experience or experience with neurodiverse students are preferred.

Community Tutors
Prior tutoring experience and familiarity with neurodiverse learners are advantageous.

Work Environment
This is a part-time, non-benefited position with flexible hours. Tutors can establish their availability, but compensation is only provided for actual tutoring time. Additional paid opportunities include preparation, administrative tasks, and professional development activities.
