Job Summary

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Instructional Support Specialist to join our team. As an Instructional Support Specialist, you will provide individualized supervision and instruction to assigned students, and additional support to the core classroom staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist classroom teachers in creating a safe and welcoming learning environment that promotes high expectations for student learning.
  • Implement on-site and community-based curriculum instruction and behavioral intervention strategies that align with the goals and objectives of each student.
  • Instruct and monitor students during lessons in the classroom to ensure fidelity of instruction and utilize instructional strategies to assist with student learning and help students meet requirements for student course completion.
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students in accordance with specific timelines and communicate with the classroom teacher on overall progress or interventions needed.
  • Manage student behavior by upholding the organization's philosophy and policies and applying appropriate disciplinary measures when necessary; work collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure consistency.
  • Support and counsel students with academic issues, provide encouragement, and work with students to improve their community, vocational, leisure, domestic, academic, and social skills.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation on student behavior as outlined by school procedures, report observations to relevant staff, and/or make recommendations based on observations.
  • Assist in the preparation of other behavioral reports and daily activities logs as required.
  • Communicate necessary information to students, team members, supervisors, and parents regarding students' needs and academic progress in collaboration with classroom teacher and principal.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of student information and records.
  • Participate in the assurance and accreditation process to ensure that the site passes or meets performance plans.
  • Participate in school, student/parent, and student advisory meetings as requested.
  • Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent with passage of basic skills test.
  • Associate degree or higher in an education or closely related field preferred.
  • Licensed as or have the ability to obtain a paraprofessional, paraeducator, teaching assistant, or similar credential preferred.
  • Prior experience working with children, preferably in an alternative or special education program setting.
  • Prior experience working with individuals with autism spectrum-related disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, and/or challenging behaviors preferred.
  • Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency situation and make independent decisions.
  • Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals and next steps.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
