We are currently seeking a full-time, 30 hours per week, Bilingual Psychiatry Assistant to join our team in Durham. This role is essential in supporting our psychiatry staff and enhancing our clinical programs to improve patient care and optimize the efforts of our psychiatric professionals. Ideal candidates will have a background as a Medical Assistant, possess outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, and demonstrate a commitment to serving the Latine community in North Carolina.

This position requires in-person work primarily at our Durham Clinic, with availability for Friday morning meetings.

Compensation and Benefits:

Typical Work Schedule:

  • Monday – 1:00pm - 3:00pm (in-person or virtual)
  • Tuesday - 10:00am - 6:00 pm (in-person)
  • Wednesday - 10:00am - 6:00 pm (in-person)
  • Thursday - 10:00am - 6:00 pm (in-person)
  • Friday - 9:00am - 2:30pm (in-person or virtual)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist Psychiatrists by:
    • Coordinating laboratory orders
    • Helping patients connect with other organizations or providers as referred
    • Communicating with educational institutions and primary care providers
    • Collaborating with Case Managers to identify additional resources for patients
  • Manage phone messages and texts from patients, providing clarification and assistance as needed.
  • Support psychiatrists during clinic hours, including taking vital signs and administering injections.
  • Maintain an updated list of patients awaiting appointments and manage discharge processes in medical records.
  • Obtain necessary release of information forms from patients.
  • Draft standard letters such as school/work excuses and requests for therapeutic animals.
  • Coordinate with IT support to resolve workflow issues for psychiatrists.
  • Assist patients in enrolling in medication assistance programs.
  • Help with data entry into electronic medical records.
  • Participate in various projects and assignments related to the psychiatry program.

General Responsibilities:

  • Engage in meetings and organizational activities as directed by supervisors.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of El Futuro through participation in fundraising and agency-wide initiatives.
  • Take advantage of learning opportunities through training platforms and networks of bilingual providers.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a related field.
  • Fluency in both Spanish and English is required.

  • Flexibility and creativity to adapt to the evolving needs of clients and the organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and electronic health record systems.
