Role Overview:
The Oncology Nurse Coordinator is a professional registered nurse with specialized oncology knowledge who provides personalized support to patients, families, and caregivers, assisting them in navigating the complexities of the healthcare system. Utilizing the nursing process, the Nurse Coordinator delivers education and resources to empower informed decision-making and ensure timely access to quality health and psychosocial care throughout the cancer care continuum.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including nurse triage, schedulers, and other support services.
- Facilitate the acquisition of necessary records and scans for patient evaluations.
- Enter orders as directed by the physician or advanced practice provider.
- Ensure all patients have appropriate orders during clinic visits.
- Coordinate outside labs and scans with other healthcare providers.
- Manage chemotherapy schedules and assist with patient education regarding treatment plans.
- Provide symptom management support and triage patient inquiries.
- Assist with prior authorizations and insurance paperwork as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Certification: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) or Bone Marrow Transplant Certified Nurse (BMTCN) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of four years in an oncology setting.
- Licensure: Current unencumbered RN license in North Carolina.
- Certification: Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Essential Attributes:
The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and demonstrate proficiency in basic computer skills, including email and electronic health record systems.
