Position Summary
The Bridge Over Troubled Waters is seeking a dedicated Bilingual Community Organizer specializing in Sexual Violence Prevention. This role focuses on addressing the underlying factors contributing to sexual violence while fostering protective measures within the communities of Pasadena and South Houston through strategic community organizing initiatives.
Key responsibilities include providing training and resources to youth, community members, and professionals eager to engage in sexual violence prevention efforts. The Organizer will actively participate in local, regional, and statewide training sessions centered on primary prevention strategies. The majority of the role will involve implementing the Close to Home curriculum within the community, dedicating 90% of time to direct programming.
Additionally, the Organizer will represent the organization at community events, enhancing partnerships with local allies and stakeholders. Engaging middle and high school students in meaningful discussions and actions to combat sexual violence is a priority.
Responsibilities also encompass developing and managing program documentation tools to monitor both qualitative and quantitative outcomes, planning networking events to foster community engagement, and supporting project teams in implementing activities that promote safe and healthy social norms.
Further duties include delivering presentations on healthy relationships and related topics in educational settings, providing crisis intervention services via a 24-hour hotline, and assisting with various departmental events by coordinating logistics and resources.
Qualifications and Skills
  • High school diploma or GED preferred; experience in social work or public health is highly valued, particularly with survivors of domestic and sexual violence.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is essential.
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Publisher.
  • In-depth knowledge of sexual violence, crisis intervention, and primary prevention methodologies.
  • Experience in facilitating educational sessions and public speaking, along with the ability to develop culturally relevant programming.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Proficient in preparing written reports and business correspondence.
  • Understanding of the root causes of sexual and domestic violence, with the ability to facilitate discussions on oppression and gender dynamics.
  • Conflict resolution and facilitation skills to unify diverse perspectives in group settings.
  • Awareness of community and legal resources available to assist survivors.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to connect with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to create and manage a program budget effectively.
  • Reliable transportation is necessary, with travel comprising 50 to 75% of the role.

  • Maintain a valid TX Driver's License and a clean driving record.
  • Provide and uphold current auto liability insurance.
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.
