Role Summary
The Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Inc. (TBOTW) is in search of a Bilingual Therapist who will provide essential therapeutic support to individuals affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and stalking. This role involves creating a comprehensive therapeutic strategy aimed at crisis resolution through initial assessments of clients impacted by these issues. The Bilingual Therapist will also evaluate family objectives towards achieving self-sufficiency by conducting ongoing assessments and offering both family and individual counseling, utilizing suitable therapeutic methods to aid recovery for survivors.

The Bilingual Therapist is expected to enhance their professional expertise by participating in educational workshops, reviewing relevant mental health literature, building professional networks, and staying updated on the latest psychological practices. Responsibilities also include delivering psychoeducational services in both individual and group therapy settings, providing legal advocacy when necessary, and supporting clients during court proceedings as an expert witness.

Additionally, the therapist will respond to a 24-hour crisis hotline, offering immediate crisis intervention and directing callers to appropriate services beyond the agency's scope. On-call crisis intervention services will be provided on a rotating basis, including on-site advocacy at local hospitals and collaboration with law enforcement as required. The Bilingual Therapist will contribute to the mission of The Bridge by participating in awareness initiatives and community projects as needed.
Qualifications & Skills Required
  • Master's Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
  • Must hold a valid counseling license in Texas - LMFT, LPC, LCSW; license must be in good standing.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is mandatory.
  • At least one year of experience working with at-risk populations.
  • Understanding of the dynamics surrounding domestic and sexual violence and their effects on victims.
  • Familiarity with community and legal resources available to assist survivors of domestic and sexual violence, as well as knowledge of relevant legislation affecting children’s education.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups.
  • Proven capability to manage crisis situations and implement action plans independently.
  • Strong self-management skills, including the ability to establish professional boundaries.
  • Interpersonal skills that demonstrate empathy and the ability to interpret non-verbal cues.
  • Experience in facilitating support groups and adapting to changes effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Requirements
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check.
  • Passing a drug screening is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Must maintain a clean driving record and provide annual updates.
  • Current auto liability insurance is required.
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. is necessary.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs, and navigate stairs in an emergency shelter environment.
