Job Summary

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Success Coach to join our team in Dallas, TX. As a key member of our Refugee School Impact Program, you will play a vital role in supporting newly arrived refugee middle school students and their families as they navigate the education system and rebuild their lives in the United States.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients and caregivers to identify areas of need and develop personalized service plans.
  • Provide mentoring, guidance, and psychosocial support to clients, helping them to achieve their goals and overcome challenges.
  • Facilitate caregiver involvement in clients' education through regular communication, home visits, and other mechanisms.
  • Screen clients for emotional distress and mental health needs, making referrals to the Mental Health Department as necessary.
  • Develop and implement activities to teach positive coping mechanisms and promote emotional well-being.
  • Advocate for and connect clients to relevant resources, such as counseling services, tutoring programs, and extracurricular activities.
  • Collaborate with external organizations and internal departments to ensure seamless referrals and support services.
  • Provide guidance on study practices and homework completion to help clients succeed academically.
  • Maintain comprehensive case notes, update case files, and regularly review service plans to ensure clients' needs are being met.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 15 hours of work per week, with a majority of hours spent in-person with clients.
  • The ability to travel regularly throughout the service delivery area, primarily in Dallas and surrounding areas.
  • Covid vaccination is not required, but highly encouraged.
  • Understanding of the need to approach case management with the goal of client self-sufficiency and sustainability.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with youth, particularly in educational and social programs.
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations.
  • Fluency in a second language, such as Pashto, Dari, Farsi, Urdu, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, French, Spanish, Arabic, Ukrainian, Burmese, or Rohingya.
Skills and Competencies
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and navigating platforms such as Teams.
  • Reliable self-starter with excellent time management and multitasking skills.
  • Patience and resourcefulness in working with diverse populations.
Language

The primary language for this role is English, with the ability to communicate effectively in a second language a plus.
