Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Compliance Paralegal to join our team at Emporium TPO. As a Compliance Paralegal, you will play a critical role in supporting our Chief Compliance Officer/Corporate Counsel and the compliance department with various legal and compliance tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contractual Matters: Serve as the primary point of contact for internal and external clients on contractual matters, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Legal Compliance Research: Conduct moderately complex legal compliance research, apply results to facts, and develop and communicate legal conclusions, including interpretation of federal and state mortgage lending laws and regulations.
  • Loan Closings: Review legal entity documents to assist loan operations in compliant loan closings, including Power of Attorney and Trust documents.
  • Issue Resolution: Resolve complex issues or projects where professional expertise is required to apply law, regulation, policies, and guidelines.
  • Compliance Guidance: Answer escalated compliance questions related to legal interpretation and provide guidance and training to other associates.
  • Reporting: Assist in the preparation of reports for senior management and external regulatory bodies, as appropriate.
  • Compliance Knowledge: Maintain a strong understanding of consumer compliance mortgage lending (federal and state) compliance laws.
  • Culture Contribution: Contribute to a positive culture based on continuous learning, professional growth, and development.
  • Additional Tasks: Assist the Chief Compliance Officer/Corporate Counsel with other tasks as directed.
Requirements
  • Education: A post-baccalaureate paralegal certificate or associate's degree in paralegal studies and/or a paralegal certificate from a state bar association or an association of legal assistants, or equal.
  • Experience: 3 years of experience in a legal role supporting a mortgage origination, compliance, and/or legal department.
  • Contract Review: At least 1 year of experience reviewing and assisting with non-disclosure agreements, and vendor contracts.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of residential lending industry processes and regulations required.
  • Real Estate Law: Knowledge or experience working in a real estate law and/or title services helpful.
  • Document Interpretation: Ability to read and interpret documents such as procedure manuals, legal correspondence, or regulations to disseminate requirements.
  • Attention to Detail: Demonstrated detailed-oriented professional.
  • Problem-Solving: Creative problem-solving skills matched with strength in executing under pressure.
  • Self-Motivation: Self-motivated with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Confidentiality: Ability to use independent judgment and be entrusted with confidential information.
  • Cognitive Abilities: Ability to think, remember, and learn new information to apply to job functions.
