About the Role

Aecon Group, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Safety Manager to join our team. As a Safety Manager, you will be responsible for leading the implementation of Aecon's health and safety program at the project level, and leading the safety culture on site.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work collaboratively with operations to ensure work is completed according to safe work procedures and that Aecon's safety program is implemented at all levels of the project.
  • Provide site-specific safety training and orientations.
  • Develop and train supervisors and staff on Aecon's Health and Safety programs.
  • Review project plans and the work site before work commences, identifying safety-related risks and developing strategies to mitigate any of those risks.
  • Inspect the project site to evaluate ongoing work conditions to ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
  • Liaise with external parties such as government inspectors, sub-contractors, and the general public.
  • Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on the project site.
  • Work with senior management to create plans for emergency procedures.
  • Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards.
  • Investigate incidents to identify causes and to determine corrective/preventive action plans.
  • Represent project at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues regarding workplace health and safety matters.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to direct reports.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years' experience managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
  • Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of OH&S legislation and regulations.
  • Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) preferred.
  • National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or equivalent preferred.
  • Background in Training and/or Education and/or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent meeting and training facilitation skills.
  • Understanding of disability management and return-to-work programs.
  • Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with various project stakeholders from subcontractors, clients, the workforce, and project leadership.
  • Valid driver's license with good driving record.
