About the Opportunity
Aecon is seeking a highly skilled Safety Manager to lead the implementation of our health and safety program at the project level. As a key member of our senior management team, you will be responsible for fostering a strong safety culture on site and overseeing a team of Advisors.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with operations to ensure work is completed according to safe work procedures and that Aecon's safety program is implemented at all levels of the project.
- Provide site-specific safety training and orientations to ensure a high level of awareness and compliance.
- Develop and train supervisors and staff on Aecon's Health and Safety programs, ensuring a culture of safety excellence.
- Review project plans and the work site before work commences, identifying safety-related risks and developing strategies to mitigate any potential hazards.
- Conduct regular site inspections to evaluate ongoing work conditions and ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards.
- Liaise with external parties, including government inspectors, sub-contractors, and the general public, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Work with project management teams and field workers to implement and devise solutions to safety-related issues on the project site.
- Develop and implement emergency procedures in collaboration with senior management.
- Ensure subcontractors and employees comply with safety standards, promoting a culture of accountability.
- Investigate incidents to identify causes and determine corrective/preventive action plans, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Represent the project at meetings with stakeholders and other organizations on issues related to workplace health and safety.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to direct reports, fostering a culture of growth and development.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' experience managing health and safety for heavy civil infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of Construction projects with a solid understanding of OH&S legislation and regulations.
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) or National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) certification preferred.
- Background in Training and/or Education and/or experience delivering EHS Training programs to individuals and groups.
- Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects.
- Excellent meeting and training facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate teams.
- Understanding of disability management and return-to-work programs.
- Adaptable and flexible to an ever-changing environment, with the ability to adapt to new challenges and priorities.
- Ability to collaborate with various project stakeholders, including subcontractors, clients, the workforce, and project leadership.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
