Animal Care Technician

Position Overview:
The Animal Care Technician plays a crucial role in the daily operations of the veterinary practice by delivering high-quality care and outstanding service to both our animal patients and their owners. Key responsibilities encompass assessing animal needs, performing health evaluations and diagnostic tests, assisting in surgical procedures, providing nursing support, and ensuring the well-being of patients through proper feeding and care. Additionally, the technician is responsible for managing medical supplies and equipment, overseeing patient triage and discharge processes, and maintaining accurate medical records.
It is important to note that North Carolina has specific regulations regarding the use of the title 'technician.' If you are licensed in another state, you must pass the NCVMB Technician State Exam to use this title. Until then, you will be referred to as an assistant while working at or representing our facility.
Essential Responsibilities:
Assess animal needs through examinations, interviews, and reviewing medical histories, including laboratory tests and imaging. Provide patient care by monitoring vital signs, collecting samples, administering medications and vaccines, and managing wound care. Assist in examinations and surgical procedures by preparing necessary supplies and ensuring patient safety. Deliver exceptional pet care by utilizing knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. Verify and manage medication supplies. Ensure patient comfort by providing food and water, maintaining cleanliness in patient areas, and observing for any clinical signs of illness. Administer medications as directed, ensuring proper documentation and security of controlled substances. Uphold a safe and sanitary environment by following sterilization protocols and maintaining compliance with legal regulations. Keep accurate medical records by documenting patient conditions and updating databases promptly. Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding patient status as directed by the veterinarian. Maintain equipment by adhering to operational guidelines and performing routine maintenance. Manage inventory by ordering supplies and maintaining accurate records. Enhance professional knowledge through continuous education and engagement with industry literature. Prepare pets for release to their owners, ensuring they are clean and well-groomed. Follow both oral and written instructions diligently. Perform additional duties as assigned by management.Required Competencies:

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of two years' experience in veterinary care, including surgical assistance and nursing for hospitalized animals. Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT, LVT, RVT, or LVMT) is preferred, or as mandated by state regulations. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.Knowledge and Skills Required:
Familiarity with surgical preparation, monitoring, and recovery processes. Proficiency in performing procedures such as catheter placement and phlebotomy. Awareness of safety protocols to minimize risks of injury. Ability to restrain animals safely and effectively. Competence in medication administration and monitoring sedation. Capability to work in environments with sick animals and hazardous materials. Confidence in handling stressed or ill animals. Professional demeanor in all interactions. Flexibility in scheduling, including availability for weekends and holidays. Physical stamina for lifting and moving animals as needed. Responsiveness to phone inquiries and additional tasks as required. Other responsibilities as assigned by management.Additional Information:
