Portfolio Oversight: Lead the team responsible for ensuring the integrity of credit quality and the management of the Commercial and CRE loan portfolio within the designated area.
This includes monitoring both portfolio-wide and individual loan relationship trends, focusing on credit covenants, triggers, and exceptions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver an independent and objective evaluation of risk factors associated with Commercial and CRE loans in the assigned area.
  • Organize and guide a team of credit analysts, ensuring timely and precise credit recommendations while adhering to credit policies and banking regulations. Provide insights on conditions and covenants related to loan structures to effectively mitigate risks.
  • Underwrite and assess large and/or intricate loans, accurately evaluating the financial health and operational performance of commercial and corporate entities. Aim to complete at least one financial analysis weekly with a high level of precision in figures and risk assessment.
  • Analyze personal financial statements and tax returns to evaluate the financial stability of individual guarantors.
  • Conduct annual reviews of existing credit relationships, recommending adjustments in risk ratings as necessary. This involves calculating covenant testing requirements when needed and tracking loan policy exceptions.
  • Perform site visits and inspections, documenting findings as required.
  • Monitor the assigned portfolio for compliance with Bank policies regarding credit, collateral, and documentation exceptions, recommending actions as appropriate.
  • Provide weekly updates on the credit analysis request pipeline, assigning credits to analysts, and overseeing their work to ensure adherence to established turnaround times.
  • Engage with Sponsors/Borrowers, Relationship Managers, and Portfolio Managers to enhance the quality of information needed for underwriting. Act as a consultant on credit-related issues, processes, and procedures.
  • Assist in the loan structuring process and review legal covenants to ensure alignment with the Bank's policies and procedures, collaborating with various bank units.
  • Work with Portfolio Management on the administration, monitoring, and timely renewal of upcoming maturities, processing modifications, and identifying potential issues within the portfolio.
  • Utilize software systems for loan originations, modifications, annual reviews, and presentations to senior management.

Portfolio Management Role:

  • Coordinate and oversee the portfolio management team for the assigned region, ensuring their responsibilities are met:
    • Provide transactional support in the loan approval process, assisting Relationship Managers with proposals, term sheets, and credit memos while ensuring compliance with the Bank's credit programs and policies.
    • Conduct analysis and underwriting functions as needed, supporting new business activities by screening preliminary data and ensuring compliance with credit underwriting policies.
    • Oversee the annual review process of existing credit relationships, recommending changes in risk ratings as necessary.
    • Manage the administration and monitoring of maturities and delinquencies, regularly reviewing criticized assets and identifying potential issues.
    • Coordinate site visits and inspections, reporting findings accordingly.
  • Facilitate portfolio management activities with the assigned team.

General Role:

  • Participate in seminars and training sessions to stay updated on changing regulations and industry trends.
  • Supervise, coach, train, and mentor team members to enhance their understanding of the role and improve support for Relationship Managers and other bank units.
  • Serve as a resource for business lines and collaborate with senior management on various issues.
  • Provide backup for other operational roles within the department as required.
  • Identify, evaluate, and recommend measures to mitigate risks related to compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Ensure adherence to preventive measures regarding BSA, USA Patriot Act, OFAC, and other AML-related issues.
  • Engage in various committees and outside organizations, representing the Credit Services Unit and the Bank.

Minimum Education and Certifications:
Bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, or finance is required; a Master’s degree is preferred or 7+ years of commercial credit analysis experience in lieu of education. Formal credit training is required.

Minimum Work Experience:
10+ years of professional experience in lending and credit analysis, with a solid understanding of banking products and documentation.

Technical and Essential Knowledge:
Comprehensive knowledge of the Bank's credit procedures, programs, and policies; proficiency in accounting and credit principles; strong skills in Microsoft Suite; familiarity with Salesforce, nCino, and FIS IBS is advantageous; excellent time management and organizational skills; strong communication abilities.
