Chief Executive Officer (similar to General Manager) - Full-time

Impact Hub San Francisco (IHSF) serves as a collaborative workspace for a diverse community of entrepreneurs, activists, creatives, and professionals committed to fostering positive social, economic, and environmental transformations. Our mission transcends merely providing office space; we harness our resources—including our values-driven community, talent, and infrastructure—to catalyze community-led initiatives and bolster the social impact sector. Our network includes esteemed partners and members such as Beyond12, ImpactAssets, Tides Foundation, Echoing Green, Acumen, and Presidio Graduate School, among others. Members benefit from access to a vibrant local and global network of change-makers, collaborative environments, frequent events, and community-driven programs.

IHSF is in search of a visionary business and cultural leader who can enhance revenue streams, amplify social impact, and elevate member and staff satisfaction. The ideal candidate will possess a clear strategy for how our hubs can generate meaningful benefits for local communities while simultaneously driving revenue growth and profitability. This role encompasses both long-term strategic planning and daily operational management of the Hub. Your primary objective will be to cultivate a diverse and thriving community for social and environmental innovators, entrepreneurs, funders, and activists. This position reports directly to the board of IHSF and oversees three full-time managers (Events, Operations, and Community Experience), along with two part-time contractors supporting finance and billing.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management:

  • Oversee and enhance all profit and loss statements, focusing on member growth, office occupancy, and event revenue, while identifying new income opportunities.
  • Analyze monthly financial reports to detect anomalies and implement robust financial controls.
  • Forge strategic corporate partnerships to consistently boost event revenue.
  • Develop and execute an outbound sales strategy.
  • Establish a strong local brand through effective marketing initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure seamless financial communication and integration with staff and board.
  • Formulate and monitor annual budgets.

Operational Leadership:

  • Identify opportunities to enhance existing processes and address challenges through improved planning, coordination, and automation.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of three full-time employees and two part-time staff.
  • Oversee large-scale projects across all development phases.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to establish and manage the strategic plan.
  • Assess and mitigate potential business risks and vulnerabilities.
  • Navigate local regulatory issues.

Social Impact:

  • Enhance the social impact of our members by creating networking, sales, and collaboration opportunities.
  • Maintain a continuous feedback loop regarding member needs and concerns.
  • Support the Mission Advisory Board to strengthen our relationship with the local community.
  • Establish strategic partnerships with corporations or foundations that align with our members' efforts.
  • Ensure high-quality programming for our members.
  • Act as the Hub's representative to external stakeholders.
  • Communicate the impact of our members effectively.
  • Develop a roadmap to achieve the objectives outlined in our Community Benefits Agreement (CBA).
  • Identify external funding sources to support the CBA.
  • Create an inclusive pricing structure for membership.
  • Market to diverse demographics.
  • Ensure the Hub's physical space is welcoming to individuals from all backgrounds.
  • Establish inclusion as a key performance indicator for staff.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to inspire the team to deliver exceptional service and achieve financial success.
  • Foster a positive and motivating workplace culture.
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
  • Oversee daily team management and set performance metrics and goals.
  • Lead strategic initiatives across teams while measuring performance and impact.
  • Support the professional growth and development of team members.
  • Develop comprehensive processes for goal setting across cross-functional teams.
  • Set performance expectations, drive results, and cultivate the next generation of leaders.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Hospitality, Sales, or a related field (MBA preferred).
  • Proven experience managing profit and loss statements.
  • 7+ years of professional experience, including 3+ years in a management role overseeing teams of three or more.
  • Experience in hospitality, marketing, retail, startups, consulting, or related sectors is advantageous.
  • Demonstrated success in managing sales and building prominent brands.
  • Experience in business scaling is a plus.
  • Strong operational expertise.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining meticulous attention to detail and a proactive problem-solving approach.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • A strong commitment to developing others and being an inspirational leader.
  • Exemplify integrity, accountability, and empathy.

Compensation and Expectations:

This is a full-time, exempt position. Success metrics will include membership revenue growth, venue rental revenue, and overall member retention rates. Specific goals will be established quarterly with the Board. Compensation will be commensurate with experience, supplemented by performance-related bonuses. This role includes comprehensive benefits and may require flexible hours, including evenings and occasional weekends.
